The effect of photonic integration on the evolution of communication systems – Presented by Hercules Avramopoulos, Photonics Communications Research Laboratory National TU of Athens at the 19th edition European Conference on Integrated Optics, which takes place on 3 – 5 April 2017 at Eindhoven University of Technology, Blauwe Zaal in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
Over the last decades, the ubiquitous necessity for high-bandwidth and low-cost has instigated the penetration of photonic integrated circuits (PICs) though all the major application areas of Photonics, designating them as the fundamental building block of Datacom, Telecom and Sensing implementations. In this talk, state of the art photonic integration technologies for communications are discussed as well as technology requirements and challenges for future applications.
