Jeremy Witzens received the Engineering Diploma degree from Ecole Polytechnique, France, in 2000, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, USA, in 2001 and 2005. From 2006 to 2009, he was a Senior Staff Engineer with Luxtera Inc. and from 2009 to 2010 a Principal Research Scientist with the University of Washington, Seattle, USA.
Since 2011, he is a Professor with RWTH Aachen University, Germany, where he leads the Chair of Integrated Photonics, and since 2023 he is a member of the management board of aiXscale Photonics GmbH.
About RWTH Aachen University, Chair of Integrated Photonics
Research Focus
The chip-scale implementation of opto-electronic systems on silicon substrates – Silicon Photonics – has made rapid progress over the last two decades. It is commercially applied to electro-optic transceivers in both the short distance datacom and high-performance coherent optical communications segments as well as in a range of sensing applications such as for example light detection and ranging, LiDAR, and optical coherence tomography.
However, this technology is still rapidly evolving. The Chair of Integrated Photonics is involved in a number of research projects at the forefront of silicon photonics, addressing novel material integration, advanced assembly concepts, advanced signal processing schemes, and emerging applications in biology and emerging computation platforms.

Dear Profesor, I am Gustavo Torchia from the Optical Research Center (CIOp) of La Plata, Argentina. I am head of the integrated photonics group belonging to the CIOp. I am writing this message to ask you for a waiver of the registration fee for the ECIO 2024 conference. I expect to present two contributions to ECIO, one from a Silicon Photonics device (integration and packaging process for power splitters) and another related to a new organic platform for the fabrication of optical thin films and solar concentrators. Casually, I will be in Europe from May to June spending a secondment corresponding to a RISE program of the UE.
I would appreciate it if you consider this request.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Gustavo Torchia
