Integrated Microwave Photonics: The evolution from ASICs to Universal Processors – Presented by Jose Capmany, Universitat Politecnica de Valencia

Jose Capmany

Integrated Microwave Photonics: The evolution from ASICs to Universal Processors – Presented by Jose Capmany, Universitat Politecnica de Valencia/ Iteam Research Institute at the 19th edition European Conference on Integrated Optics, which takes place on 3 – 5 April 2017 at Eindhoven University of Technology, Blauwe Zaal in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

This paper will be devoted to describe the two salient approaches that are available for the implementation of Integrated Microwave Photonics (MWP) chips from a functional point of view. On one hand, we will review the recent progress in Application-Specific Photonic Integrated Circuits (ASPICs), where a particular circuit and chip configuration is designed to optimally perform a particular MWP functionality [2]. On another hand, recent progress will be reported on a radically different approach, the universal MWP signal processor architecture that can be integrated on a chip and is capable of performing all the main functionalities by suitable software programming of its control signals [7-9]. Photonic Integration in Converged Data Centre Systems – Presented by Richard Pitwon, Seagate

Richard Pitwon

Photonic Integration in Converged Data Centre Systems – Presented by Richard Pitwon, Seagate  at the 19th edition European Conference on Integrated Optics, which takes place on 3 – 5 April 2017 at Eindhoven University of Technology, Blauwe Zaal in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

System embedded photonic interconnect has been a strong area of focus in the European funding programmes for collaborative research and technological development over the past 15 years. This talk will provide an introduction to Seagate Systems collaborative research and development activities to address the viability of commercial deployment of photonic interconnect in large scale data centre environments including at the system, board and ultimately chip level. Seagate is developing an international cross-project initiative, which will allow advanced technologies from different international projects to be tested with respect to one another.
